Board denies single-family interpretation for sober living residence

NJ RANDOLPH — Randolph Board rejects interpretation that would classify sober living residence as single-family use. The Board of Adjustment voted 6-0 to deny the interpretation request by DBEK Renovation LLC for a proposed community sober living residence at 17 Highview Terrace that would house up to 10 residents in recovery. Consulting Planner Katherine Sarmad outlined the legal framework, noting the township zoning ordinance restricts such residences to single-family units but does not explicitly permit them.
The applicant must now pursue a use variance; the applications for both the 17 Highview property and a related project at 47 Wilkeshire Boulevard are continued to April 23, 2026.
